Vinyl for sign-making is available in many different grades and prices. The different types are normally graded by their longevity for external use, or calendared life. Matt vinyl and economy gloss vinyl usually have a calendared life of between 3 and 5 years. Mid-term vinyl has a calendared life of 5 to 7 years, while cast vinyl will last up to 10 years. The calendared life is the minimum period the manufacturer will guarantee the vinyl against shrinking and/or fading in external use.
